Waterloo, IA -- A woman was arrested and charged with intentionally setting a fire and falsely filing a $25,000 insurance claim,
Waterloo police and fire authorities say. Lora Mae Gamblin-Deering, 35, of Waterloo, was arrested Friday and charged with second-degree arson,
insurance fraud and perjury.

The charges stem from an April 3 fire at 620 W. Sixth St. in Waterloo. At the time of the fire, Deering was living
at that home, authorities say. The Waterloo fire marshal - assisted by police investigators - determined the fire was deliberately set at several
locations throughout the residence.

Through the use of an arson canine, it was determined that ignitable liquids were used to start the fire and
traces of ignitable liquids were found on the clothes Deering was wearing the night of the fire. The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation’s
crime lab confirmed the presence of ignitable liquids both in the home and on Deering’s clothes, Waterloo authorities say.

The charges of insurance
fraud and perjury stem from notarized statements given to Deering’s insurance company claiming losses in the fire that were found to be false.
Deering filed a property loss claim of $25,000, police said.
